Bernard and his young family are regular visitors from Melbourne. We think his email below really captures what a stay at Sawyers Bay Shacks is all about.

“I have travelled to many pristine coastal locations in Australia but can say with confidence that Sawyers Bay is unique for its oceanscape-meets-bush beauty and its sense of solitude and soul-restoring peace. Perfect family bonding or couples retreat. Magnificent fairytale mini-beaches nestle amongst awesome boulder arrangements that appear to have been scattered by giants. Clambering over and between the boulders brings childhood joys to young and old, with a new wonderland discovered behind each rock climbed. Weather changes shift the moods and hues of the sea but the experience is magnificent regardless of weather or season.

All of this can be seen from both of the “shacks” (although this word aptly describes the exterior appearance of modest bush accommodation sympathetic to the landscape, it vastly understates the quality and internal amenities of the accommodation). My family has stayed in each. They are carefully positioned so as not to be visible to each other, retaining the sense of privacy and seclusion. They are designed to capture completely the seascape, light and the sense of being “in” the point of ocean meeting bush. Wildlife abounds, with blue wrens, sea eagles and wallabies catching the eye and ear from the decks. Nothing interferes with the family-bonding and renewing experience – no inessential technology such as blaring televisions for example. But the shacks strike a perfect balance between spacious and cosy, and have every amenity the family (or couples) could need to have the comfort from which to enjoy the serene experience. Very well designed and functional kitchens, comfortable beds, open fires with abundant timber, clever shelving and clothes-hanging conveniences. And a really central and convenient location from which to have half-day or day-trips to other parts of the island or to pop into Whitemark for shopping or meals”
